His Shoulders

My 5 year old daughter is memorizing Isaiah 9:6 in school. It was a bit funny one day last week when she came home, excited, and proclaimed that Jesus was on our shoulders! Me and my wife smiled and enjoyed the moment. I later learned what she was talking about.

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

I always think of the Michael W. Smith song “Emmanuel” this time of year. It is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Honestly, it’s a song that’s good any time of the year.

Jesus came to this world not to “condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:17). This was prophesied by Isaiah hundreds of years before He was born to Mary and Joseph. It was also foretold that he would come as a child, given to us, and he will be in charge.

In these times of unrest, we need to remember this. God is in charge of the world, and He has things in place just the way He wants them.
