His Workmanship is You

Have you ever thought of yourself as a masterpiece? I’m not talking about a slick haircut, or that morning shave. Perhaps you’ve bought a new dress or a nice watch. We can sculpt ourselves in all sorts of artsy, eye turning, humanlike ways. God had a different vision in mind when he created you.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Workmanship here is “poiēma” in the original greek. It means “that which has been made” or “of the works of God the creator”. That’s pretty powerful, right? In a world where science tells us we grew and evolved from all kinds of things, God tells us otherwise.

But my point today isn’t to debate evolution vs creation. If you can’t get past Genesis 1:1, then we have a problem already.

God created us and knew us before we were ever conceived. Long before he created all of that around us. He created who we are, and what we’ll be. He shaped us and built us in a way that is unique only to ourselves.

Jeremiah 1:“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Sure, this message is directly to Jeremiah. We’re not all called to be prophets, but we God does have a plan for all of our lives if we’re willing to accept it. We were created in Christ Jesus for good works. Not our own works. Works that promote the good news and do something good in a broken world.

God prepared our path before we took our first breath. Before we took our first step. Before we were even visible on an ultrasound. Those good works that God created are what we should walk in.

Pray today that God would guide your path. Thank Him for sending his Son. Remember the season we’re in, just 4 days before Christmas. Read Luke 2 and reflect on that great day today.

Then take God’s plan for your life and walk in His path.
